Board Assessment and Recruitment: Crafting the “Perfect” Board

What competencies does your board have today and will these be relevant in the future? Directors are getting advice from active shareholders and industry consultants regarding board diversity, board evaluations, director selection, and skills required. But missing from this conversation is the discussion of the trade-offs required, the unintended consequences of director evaluations, and the important role that culture plays in the boardroom.  Google’s seven year project to define the perfect team surprised even that data-oriented company (see attached article).  How can their research inform how we select directors? Join us for a discussion the goes beyond the obvious.

·        What aspects of diversity are important: gender, age, geography, culture, industry background?

·        What are some best practices for board evaluations and how should they be done?

·        How might a board deal with underperforming directors?

·        How can a board recruit people with skills and experiences critical to the strategic direction of the company when there are no current “openings”?

We are pleased that the following women will lead us through a discussion of the challenges facing directors as we build boards for the 21st century:

Beverly Behan is the President of Board Advisors and author of “Good Companies Deserve Great Boards.” She has worked with more than 130 companies to create truly great boards.

Pam Reeve is the Chair of Frontier Communications, DentaQuest, and The Commonwealth Institute, Lead Director of American Tower, and a director of Sonus Networks.

Ruby Sharma is a Principal in EY’s The Center for Board Matters where she assists corporate boards and audit committees on a broad range of governance topics including composition and structure, self-assessment, and agendas.

Willow Shire is a director of The TJX Companies and a Regional Board member of US Fund for UNICEF.

We look forward to seeing you on April 03, 2017.
